CANCER RESEARCH, CANCER NAVIGATION AND PREVENTION CANCER RESEARCH
  • We have been funding some of the most advanced pediatric cancer research in the country, at their earliest phases with tremendous success. This research has benefited children in many parts of the world.
  • We have supported a vaccine trial that reduced the relapse rates by 50% for a certain group of kids.
  • We supported the development of two drugs before proof of concept was established. Once our funding helped establish proof of concept for these two drugs, the FDA and NCI came in with multi-million-dollar investments.
CANCER NAVIGATION Children succumb to the disease needlessly because, in many cases, their doctors and parents are unaware of treatments that could save their child’s life. We wrote our cancer guide, “Steps To Hope.” It shows families how to identify the top cancer treatment centers for the purpose of confirming their child’s cancer diagnosis and acquire the most effective and advanced treatments. It shows families how to overcome financial and emotional obstacles preventing them from obtaining the best possible care. We forwarded a copy of Steps to Hope to then Vice President Joe Biden. Six days later, we were invited to represent pediatric cancer research at the Cancer Moonshot Summit in Washington, D.C. PREVENTION Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer, one out of every 68 children born in America is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and every 4.5 minutes, a child is born with a birth defect. The incidence of cancer and these other non-communicable diseases is on the rise due to the increase of toxins in our children's food and environment. As much as 90% of cancers and other non-communicable diseases are caused by toxins in a child’s food and environment. Preventing exposure to toxins has the greatest potential to stop unnecessary suffering and loss of life for children. The world's leading authority in this field has joined us in this effort. With his help, we are developing a program to educate and motivate parents to take steps to reduce their children's exposure to dangerous toxins. The program's design emphasizes helping lower-income families - the ones most impacted by toxins.

The Fire Relief Fund will enable local donors to make gifts to support those impacted by the wildfires throughout California. The Foundation will redistribute funding to the closest community foundations near the disaster to direct to local agencies who are on the ground in their communities providing immediate support to those most in need. The Community Foundation has waived all administrative fees so 100% of donations will be used for grantmaking.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests we honor his commitment to the community by donating gifts in memory of Ben McAdams at The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. The family will direct gifts to the organizations near and dear to Ben’s heart.
